The low oral bioavailability of berberine is one of the prime hurdles for achieving the desired efficacy of Berberine. The absorption, biodistribution, metabolism, and elimination studies of Berberine have unfortunately shown poor absorption, rapid metabolism, and elimination of Berberine as major reasons for its poor bioavailability.
